SUCCESS TIPS FROM WOMEN TO WOMEN – PART 3

Posted on: March 10th, 2017

To close our Women’s Week, we invited our HR Director, Courtney Cassaras, to talk about how she achieved success in her personal and professional lives.

Courtney CassarasDan: Can you describe your career with Veredus, a Hays company, so far?
Courtney:
I began my career at Veredus 9 years ago as an IT Recruiter.  Since then I’ve been a Researcher, HR Specialist, Director of Consultant Care, and now the Director of Human Resources.  I’m very grateful for the advancement opportunities I’ve had here, and I look forward to even more growth with the company.

Dan: What has your biggest challenge been and what did you learn from it?
Courtney:
I’m not the first woman to say this, but balancing work and life have been challenging for me. My career is very important to me but so is my family. In the beginning, I struggled with the balance and wasn’t sure that I could be successful in both areas at once. Then, one day, I realized that the skills for both “jobs” were very similar – leadership, prioritization, and time management – and using these skills both at home and at work has been tremendously helpful. I’m also fortunate to have a supportive spouse and employer.

Dan: What advice would you give a woman starting out their career?
Courtney:
Start out strong! Your first job out of college can be a bit of a shock. It’s easy to show up and collect a paycheck, but paving the way for a successful career is hard work. Show up early. Stay late. Go the extra mile. Network with people inside and outside the company. Raise your hand. People will notice and it will pay off later.

Dan: What do you consider your biggest achievement so far?
Courtney:
I’m very proud of the work I am doing right now. I have been with Veredus/Hays for a long time and worked my way up to where I am today. I remember being asked, “Where do you see yourself in 10 years?” Well, I did it in 5 years and I’m already preparing myself for the next challenge!

Dan: How can women help other women in the workforce?
Courtney:
I mentioned earlier that I think it’s important to network and surround yourself with successful women. Not only do they inspire and empower me, but I’m constantly learning from them by observation and asking them questions. Join a local women’s organization and/or try to find a mentor within your company.

Courtney teaches us every day about what means to balance your personal and professional life and how to make an impact in people’s lives. I’m very proud to have her with our team for so long and looking forward to what she’ll achieve next.

Many thanks to all the women from Veredus and Hays who help us every day to grow and succeed.
